Maya Render Passes
To start off the year we did a Maya recap and looked at Render Passes. We got a pre-laid out scene with colour and a backdrop and all we were required to do was colour the cube however we wanted and then add the render passes in. There were 4 that we added altogether the first being colour. Colour is basically used to add colour, it's as simple as that, and we used it on the cube at the front to control the strength of the colour. The next pass we added was shadow, and used this to add shadow onto everything put the lamp, as this created its own shadows. We then did the reflection pass to add reflections onto the place mat that the cube jumps onto and then lastly added the occlusion pass, which gave the whole scene self shadowing. This is feel was a very subtle but very necessary detail as I've always felt that its the small details that created the whole picture.
