Considering Transmedia and Merchandising: Action Figure Range

The idea to create and Action Figure range came as an idea as a way to merchandise the franchise and create collectable content. One thing we had to consider was size, as our world contains a vast differentiating size of characters. If average size was 12 inches tall, then characters like Gustave the Crocodile or Umri Wa Tembo the Elephant would be unrealistically big to produce. So creating the average size at 6 inches tall allows some characters to reach 12  - 18 inches (as some do, such as Marvel Universe's Galactus, or Neca's Gandalf - both 18 inches tall, and Slideshow Collectables and Marvel Legends Icons series both 12 inches tall). But also the small characters, such as Jenny the Rabbit and Sawyer the Raccoon, can reach 3 inches which is still large enough for a range of action figures such as Marvel Universe range of figures.

The two main inspirations for the line came from Marvel Legends figures, and Hot Toys/Slideshow Collectables. We looked at Marvel Legends (by Toybiz) for their impressive articulation and detail, and Hot Toys for the level of detail that goes into their fabric clothing. We wanted to mix these two to create a line that has no real age limit, and produce a few rough prototypes. The main age audience would be 15+ as they would be quite delicate and be aimed for decorative purposes, but we would want the final figures to be tough enough for children to play with if so desired.
