Heartstrings is another short animation (by Rhiannon Evans, 2009) that won a total of ten awards. This film doesn’t need dialogue, detail, or an environment for the audience to connect with the characters, its simplistic character designs and theme gives it an unpretentious, relatable, imaginative short story which engages the audience the entire duration of the film.

The Eagleman Stag

The Eagleman Stag is a short film by Mickey Please, the winner of 18 awards, and was also featured in the international premier of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and won the BAFTA for best short animation (2011.) The miniature black and white film uses intellectual yet common language combing humour with deeper insights and references aging, and how we perceive time and life as we age.

Big Buck Bunny

Big Buck Bunny is a short film directed by Sacha Goedegebure of the Blender foundation team. The short film won two awards including the MovieSquad Audience Award, and the The HAFF Audience Award at Holland Animation Film Festival in 2008. The films use of bright vibrant colour creates a light, joyful atmosphere thought the film. Although I feel what engages the audience is the connection they feel to the characters through the films sense of humour.

Matrix Style Flip book

This flipbook clearly took a lot of time and effort, using precise measurements between the distances of objects from one page to the next, to create the illusion that slow motion is being used in the animation. The longer the distance of the bullet between each page, the quicker it appears to be moving, the shorter the distance, the slow it travels.

Spider in the Bath is a series of children’s animations by Hibbert Ralph Entertainment. The simple but fun animations, offer fantastic hand drawn stop-motion animation. With very plain to no backgrounds, which allows the colour and movement to focus the audiences attention on the characters. All the characters which appear in this (finale episode), each individually were the main character in each previous episode following up to the finale.
