Chris Riddell is a cartoonist and children’s book
illustrator, most well-known for his work in ‘The edge chronicle’ series. Chris’
illustration, more ‘worldly’ than ‘homely,’ demonstrates a wide landscape that
obviously holds some magical, supernatural quality. The exquisite detail allows
the environment to seem more inhabited, as there are multiple, different houses
and towns across the landscape. Although this piece is magnificent, I think I
will concentrate in smaller proximities.

Ross Tran
Ross Tran’s piece here I stumbled across on Fuck Yeah
concept art. I really feel he has managed to capture the idea of exploration
and traveling in this piece, mainly due to the huge contrast in scale of the environment
to the characters and the strong appeal of an unexplored/re-discovered
landscape.
Brian Flora - Beowulf
Brian Flora’s Concept art for Grendal’s mother’s cave, is a
well fitted environment to this character. Its rich gold’s and mystical vibrant
water gives a surreal look for this characters home. I do feel however my huntsman would live
somewhere more, dirty, unclean, and less prosperous environment.
King Kong
Although this image doesn’t display Kong’s home well, I wanted
to include it. King Kong lives at the tallest point on his island, because it’s
where he feels most safe. In Peter Jackson’s version it is clear his entire
family once lived here, due to the bones and skeletons still on the floor. I liked
the idea that his home and safe place is eventually his cause for his death,
and that it had significance to the story.
Skyrim Camp
'Falkreath Stormcloak - Skyrim.'
For my character’s environment, I didn’t want him to have a ‘home.’
I wanted him to look like he travels a lot, so his most likely surrounding for
a night would be a camp, or a cave. I wanted him to pretty much live outdoors,
in the wilderness, and be very much in touch with nature.
