Researching the Map: Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider's map I felt was substantially weaker. The game is not a sandbox game, but explorable to an extent. You have to follow a path to get to the next level, which makes the map when zoomed out look somewhat empty, as only where you can travel has any information. However, where the map lacks, the story makes up for. The game is rich in history you can discover in ancient tombs, different characters dairy notes, relics and throughout the games story, including different tribal beliefs which really makes this island feel like a real place.

The environment  is also spectacular, and extremely well designed. Though enemies and people are scarce in places, it is evident people have been here for a while and once thrived, for example, the shanty town. This also shows how different kinds of people, including natives have survived life on the island.
