Ultimate Thor and Loki by Mark Miller & Bryan Hitch

The Ultimates universe is an update of the Marvel universe made in 2000 for the 20th century by Mark Miller and Bryan Hitch. Thou I am a huge fan of the Ultimates comics and universe, I was disappointed to discover Thor's powers were technological. His vest was a mechanical contraption that allowed flight and weather control, but it needed a battery that was separate from the belt. This resulted in Thor asking for the battery to be built inside a Hammer. After Loki's secret visit to earth in The Ultimates Vol 2, there was much doubt among the Avengers weather Thor was genuine or a fake. It was revealed in Ultimate Thor that he was indeed from Asgard and after Loki and the Frost Giants caused Ragnarok (the destruction of Asgard) Thor was reborn on earth ans human, (hence is technical powers.) In Ultimates 3 it unexplainably shows that he now has Mjolnir back in his possession.

Loki is written very well, his tricks and mischievous plans are fantastically planned out, and he cleverly has cameos in background panels throughout the Ultimates Vol 2 to show his subtly bending reality. However he has no recognisable Loki costume and simply wears normal clothes. This I found disappointing, however in Ultimate Thor his more classic colours do appear in his costume.

I find that although Thor's dialogue is written well, it is minimal and he only appears a few times, but when he dose, its the best part of the series and gives an epic atmosphere. I also love the redesigned facial hair and costume (apart from his lack of cape,) but I think the idea of mechanical powers is ridiculous and makes him more similar to Iron Man than Thor.
